Sunglasses

We have loads of different models from Maui Jim, Tifosi, Oakley, and Native, all chosen with performance and style in mind. It’s a good bet that we have something to suit your particular passion, be it hanging out on the beach or backcountry skiing.

Ultraviolet Light Protection

Solar radiation reaches the eyes in several different wavelengths, both visible and invisible. Anyone who spends time outdoors should wear sunglasses that offer 100% UV (ultraviolet) protection. This prevents eye damage and discomfort from the same rays that tan our skin. All sunglasses do not offer the same amount of UV protection, so look for quality products.

Polarized Lenses

Glare from the sun is reflected off roads, water, cars and just about any other flat surface. Lenses that have been polarized minimize or eliminate these effects, reducing squinting and overall strain on the eyes. They do cost more than non-polarized varieties because of the manufacturing process. And not all polarized lenses are created equal; higher quality models will reduce glare more effectively and have better optical clairity.

Lens Materials

Glass – for years the only material available. It is very scratch-resistant and offers the best optical purity.
Polycarbonate - the best choice sports and other active pursuits. Strong and lightweight, polycarb lenses do not shatter like glass upon impact. They do not provide the clarity of glass and can be more easily scratched, however.

Basic Tints

Dark Grey/Brown – great all-purpose tint that works well on the brightest days.
Amber – designed to enhance visibility in low-light conditions, on cloudy days or when mountain biking under a forest canopy.
Rose – great for low / medium light conditions. Excellent for increasing clarity on the road.

Note that lens tints are partly based on personal preference as well.
