Car-Mounted Bike Carriers
NOTE: We also carry cargo boxes and ski racks!
Bike racks come in several different configurations to suit your own personal needs.
Trunk Mount:
- the most inexpensive and the simplest design
- easy to install and remove the rack as needed
- most cannot be locked to the car for security
These racks feature easy on, easy off installation. You strap it to your trunk or hatchback and is equiped with cradles to carry two to three bikes, depending on the model. The arms fold down so you may leave it on all season if you desire. Fit most vehicles (we’ll let you know if your vehicle cannot accommodate a trunk mount).
Hitch Mount:
- high bike carrying capacity (up to 4 in most cases)
- stable and secure mounting
- come with the option (sold separately) to lock the rack to your vehicle
These slide into your reciever hitch (that square protrusion that sticks out underneath your bumper—it’s what you attach a trailer to). Most trucks, SUVs and bigger vehicles come equiped with them. The several available models come with 2- or 4-bike capacities, and they all tilt down so you can access your trunk. Most of the models have a lock system, purchased separately, that will secure the rack to your car.
Roof Mount:
- the most flexibility for multiple sports
- secure--rack systems can be locked to the roof, and bikes locked to the rack
- the most stable mounting system for your bike
The most costly option, but generally the best choice for the all-around outdoor enthusiast. Your bike(s) are kept on your roof, safely away from the squealing tires and hungry grilles that prowl the pavement. The rack system mounts either directly above your car doors, or onto a preexisting factory rack. Fork mounts (where the front wheel is removed before securing the bike) and Upright carriers (the bike is attached with both wheels on) are the most popular bike carrying methods. A great solution for devotees of multiple sports, as other rack types can be installed as well (ski, kayak, cargo box, etc.)
